Machynlleth ROC Post
This was my second visit of the summer and the post looked a lot brighter
in the sunshine. The grass had been prevented from overtaking the place by
the friendly sheep who come in and eat it, they seemed very curious about me
and what I was doing.

As can be seen from the pictures, though sound the outside was in need of
painting which was the main object of this visit. Originally built in 1960
it would have started of as anti flash white then at one time strangely it
was painted duck egg blue, maybe that was all the paint they could get hold
of at the time. The last colour it was painted was an olive green which is
the colour I was going to paint it today.

The sheep do a great job ok keeping the grass short, saves me a lot of
work. This is a view from the back end of the compound across the Dovey
Valley.

After painting the post looked totally different. This is a shot taken
from the GZI (Ground Zero Indicator) mount
Looking back towards the hatch and GZI mount showing the new paint job.
The step still needs doing but I didn't have any brick red paint. This will
be a job for next time.

A view of all the surface features, Vent, FSM tube, BPI tube (Hidden in
the grass just to the right of the FSM tube) and the entrance hatch with
vent and GZI mount.

Power was originally from two batteries providing a 12V D.C Supply which
was charged by a small generator on the surface. The power system is being
restored and the batteries will be charged by solar panels.
This picture shows a temporary solar panel that has been installed it
supplies 2.5W of power which just about trickle charges the battery, it is
hoped soon to increase this to a usable 20W.

Restoration will continue over the summer with the re-installation of the
power system, installation of other equipment. Next visit due soon to finish
the rewiring of power and get a more comfortable bed installed.. :-) |
