Machynlleth @ puffinpost is the home of a project to restore an ROC monitoring post in Machynlleth in Wales as an example of a working post during its period of use as an ROC post from 1959 - 1991. Demonstrating its role during the cold war.

Although at their height there were just over 1500 of these posts in the UK each year there get fewer due to vandalism, flooding or development. A few have been bought and are restored or undergoing restoration.

It is also hoped to make the post representative of what it might be today if the monitoring posts were still in use and have it monitoring radiation and other environmental indicators and it is hoped to have that information accessible live via the internet.

The site also has information about the cold war period in the UK, why there was a need for such posts as this and organisations such as the ROC, UKWMO and Civil Defence.
